Dr R B Jain did M.B., B.S. and M.S. from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. Later he did D.O. (Dublin & London) and M.R.C.Ophth (London). He was awarded Honorary F.R.C.S. (Glasgow) by Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow for his exceptional contributions to Ophthalmology and FAICO (Retina and Vitreous) by AIOS Collegium After M.S., he joined as Registrar at Irwin (later LNJP) hospital. He decided to go to UK, to learn more and latest modern technologies. He joined the prestigious Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh – a teaching Institute and FRCS college.

He worked in UK for 5 years, became a Consultant and was offered British Citizenship. However he returned to Mother India to serve and benefit the people of India by sharing his acquired knowledge and expertise. He joined the faculty of MAMC, but later began private practice. He started own clinic - Shanta Eye Centre at Shakti Nagar, Delhi in 1980, which was a well-equipped modern eye clinic.

He later opened RBM Eye Institute at Prashant Vihar, Delhi - 110085 in 1992.
He is a pioneer in the field of Fundus Fluorescein Angiography, Laser Photocoagulation in retinal diseases and Retinal Detachment surgery in North India.
He wrote a Thesis on “Fluorescein Angiography in Diabetic Retinopathy” in 1971. This was the First work done on FFA in India
He installed a Laser Photocoagulator for treatment of retinal diseases in 1985. This was the 5th Laser in the whole country. Patients were referred from half of north India

He has done pioneering work in the diagnosis and treatment of Ocular TB (Tuberculosis) and Choroiditis. He has many publications on this. He was Head, Department of Ophthalmology in Holy Family; Tirath Ram Shah and Sunder Lal Jain Hospitals. He has visited U.K. every year for 4 - 6 weeks from 1980 to 2015 to stay in touch with newer developments.

Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow (UK) has appointed him as Examiner for F.R.C.S. (Ophthalmology) Examinations. He has been examining since 25 years
