Frequently Asked Question

REFRACTIVE SURGERY

  • 1.What is Refractive Surgery and who can avail it?
    • Refractive surgery is a way to fix your eyesight so you might not need glasses or contacts anymore. It changes the shape of your cornea to clear up your vision.
    • A thorough eye examination is necessary to determine the ideal candidates suitable for this procedure.
  • 2. What are the types of Refractive Surgeries?
    • LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) : This involves creating a flap in the cornea and then reshaping the underlying corneal tissue with a laser.
    • PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) : This procedure removes the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) before reshaping the underlying tissue with a laser.
    • Lens exchange or replacement : This involves replacing the natural lens with an artificial lens (intraocular lens or IOL).
  • 3. How long is the surgery and what is the recovery time post surgery?
    • The actual surgery usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes for both eyes. The whole visit might last for a couple of hours
    • Most people start to see better within 24 hours after LASIK. For PRK, it might take a few days because the outer layer of the cornea needs time to heal.
